£35,000 awarded to Burton organisations
The charity has awarded more than £35,000 in grants to community organisations in the town at its latest meeting.
Burton YMCA (£15,000) and The Little Theatre Company (£2,000) are among the groups who will benefit after trustees voted on the latest round of grant applications at its November meeting.
The YMCA’s grant award will mean the group can buy a replacement van, enabling the organisation to distribute furniture and other household items to people using its Burton shop.
The Little Theatre Company, which puts on amateur dramatic shows in Burton, was awarded £2,000 towards the cost of its unit for storing props and costumes.
Burton and District Arts Council was also awarded £2,000 towards the rent of its storage unit.
Sarac, which supports the victims of rape, sexual and domestic abuse in Burton was awarded £14,264.02 which will be used to pay the rent on its borough Road base and to undertake an electrical upgrade of the property.
There was also an award of £2,500 to the Eaton Foundation. The group supports adult males with a range of issues and vulnerabilities and needs to recruit and train more volunteers.
The grant was awarded towards the costs of its Dads, Brothers and Sons Volunteering Project.
The charity’s chairman Ben Robinson said: “One of the charity’s aims is to help organisations in the town which work for the benefit of the community. The organisations we have voted to award grants to are well respected for the work they do and it gives us great pleasure to support them and ensure that work carries on.”
